Two of the three survivors of a French army helicopter that crashed off Gabon's coast died of their injuries on Sunday, according to the French Forces in Gabon (FFG).
The Cougar helicopter carrying 10 French soldiers crashed into the sea at 0808 p.m. local time (1908 GMT) on Saturday during a joint military exercise with the Gabonese army.
The fatal accident occurred minutes after the aircraft took off from the French marine base Le Foudre. Earlier reports said one soldier was killed, three rescued and six others missing.www.hxen.com
The FFG said the cause of the crash remains unknown although it has recovered the wreckage of the helicopter.
Among the soldiers were four crew members and six commandos from the French army's 13th Regiment of Dragon Paratroopers.
The commandos were part of 600 French and Gabonese soldiers maneuvering in an military drill known as Baptise Ngeri.
