Speaking at the Security Policy Conference in Munich in Germany, Qureshi said it was Pakistani court’s decision to declare Qadeer afree citizen, the private Geo TV channel reported.
Qureshi said the courts in Pakistan functioned independently, but the government reserved a right to appeal.
The Islamabad High Court declared Abdul Qadeer Khan, who had been under house arrest, a free citizen on Friday.
Abdul Qadeer Khan, known to the world as A. Q. Khan, was considered as the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program. In 2004, he confessed on television that he had been involved in proliferation of nuclear technology from Pakistan to other countries.
The then-President Pervez Musharraf pardoned A.Q. Khan who was later put under house arrest.
