Diana Krall takes a mellow turn on a collection of earthy love songs titled
Quiet Nights. The album combines romantic pop and jazz ballads with bossa nova classics by Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim. Critics note that Diana has never sounded more relaxed, and compare her vocals to the late jazz divas Julie London and Peggy Lee. Not surprisingly, she credits Lee as one of her greatest musical influences.
If you think Diana Krall gives a sultry performance of Rodgers and Hart's "Where Or When," she delivers even softer tones on "Walk On By."
Diana revisits the Hal David-Burt Bacharach songbook with "Walk On By." In 2001, she recorded their hit song, "The Look Of Love", for her album of the same name.
She also returns to the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, with breezy interpretations of "Quiet Nights" and "The Boy From Ipanema
Diana Krall gives us the female perspective of one of the world's most famous bossa nova tunes, "The Girl From Ipanema," renamed "The Boy From Ipanema."
Diana is doing fine at balancing career with motherhood, but with her twin sons nearing the three-year-old mark, finding a quiet night of her own can be a challenge. Of course, when the going at home gets tough, there's always help from her husband, singer Elvis Costello, provided he's not on tour or working in the studio.

Quiet Nights, Diana (and the twins) recently embarked on a seven-month tour that will take her across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
