RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Palmeiras soccer team beat Internacional at home on Wednesday 2-0 in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship. The win marks the team's first in front of their home crowd in 40 days and established a three-game winning streak.
Palmeiras scored their first goal in the 31st minute of play when Marcos Assuncao sent a direct kick over the defensive wall of Internacional players and into the back of a diving keeper Renan's net.
Assuncao scored again in the 58th minute off another stopped ball, receiving a generous bounce that helped his ball to fool Renan and roll into the goal.
The win takes Palmeiras to 38 points, remaining in eighth place. In the 27th round of play, the team will travel to face rival Santos on October 2.
Internacional remains in fourth place with 41 points, but is likely to fall in the standings after the conclusion of Wednesday's round of action. In the next round of play, the team will host Guarani on October 2.
