TUNIS, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia's football team defeated a valiant Moroccan side 2-1 in their first match in group C of the 2012 African Nations Cup on Monday evening in Libreville, Gabon.

Tunisia, which took the lead when Korbi scored at the 34th minute of the first half, strengthened its lead after Youssef Msakni doubled the score at the 75th minute.

However after Morocco's striker Kharja reduced the mark in the 86th minute, nerves flared as the match took on a new turn.

Kharja missed a golden opportunity to equalize at the 89th and Ben Attia's header also missed Tunisia's pole by an inch in overtime, putting an end to Morocco's attempts to equalize.

In the other match in group C, Gabon easily defeated Niger 2-0 taking the group's lead. Morocco will play Gabon on Friday.
