MOSCOW, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Russia is not going to deploy Iskander missile systems in Kaliningrad region as a response to the deployment of the U.S. Patriot missile along the border in Poland, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

"Currently there are no intentions to deploy the Iskanders since the American Patriot missiles are the part of anti-aircraft defense, not anti-missile one," said the spokesman as quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency.

"We think there is no logic in U.S.-Polish cooperation in this area, especially when it comes to Patriot system. We don't understand why they have been deploying close to the Russian borders. The answers from Americans and Poles are not satisfactory so far," the spokesman said.

He pointed out that the missiles deployment "do not assist the mutual trust and predictability in this region."

A battery of U.S. Patriot missiles on Monday arrived in Morag, north-western Poland together with more than 100 soldiers that will be stationed there. It was less than 100 km from the Polish border with the Russian western enclave of Kaliningrad.
