BEIJING, May 29 -- Teradata Corp, the world's largest data warehousing company, is seeing business opportunities amid the ongoing debt crisis in Europe as demand grows for real-time data analysis from key customers including Chinese companies dependent on Europe as a major export market.

Quick, detailed and consistent data and information have become critical for many Chinese companies to quickly respond to changes amid economic uncertainties. And growing demand for such services is driving Teradata's rapid growth, Peter Hand, the company's Asia-Pacific president, said on Friday.

Taking advantage of the global financial crisis and debt turmoil in Europe, the US-based hardware and software vendor specializing in data warehousing and business intelligence has enjoyed strong growth and solid earnings driven by companies' need for better information and data analytics for decision-making.

"During these tough times, we are actually seeing opportunities," Hand said. "It is now a critical priority for many Chinese companies to optimize their supply chains and know what is happening in their key markets."

Hand said Teradata's products enable Chinese companies to extract data from the warehouse and combine external data with it quickly so that they can quickly and effectively react to changes. He made the comments at 10th annual Teradata Universe conference in Sanya, Hainan province.

Teradata reported revenue of $429 million in the first quarter of this year, a 17 percent increase from $367 million in the same period of last year.

Hand said a major chunk of the growth came from the financial services sector, which has been under great pressure to consolidate and display more transparency since the outbreak of the global financial crisis in 2008.
