A strong earthquake has jolted the south coast of Indonesia's Java Island.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 318 kilometers off southern Java, just 24 kilometers beneath the ocean floor which they say struck at a magnitude 6.7.

The tremor was strongly felt in the capital Jakarta. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
