Many residents are eager to know where the profits go. On Wednesday, the head of the country's Ministry of Transport responded to the public's concern over regulation of highway tolls.

Li Hua, Highway Bureau Director of Chinese Transport Ministry, said, "We should know exactly how many toll roads there are in China and how many years these roads have charged vehicles highway fees. And we should also know how the money has been used, like paying for loans or for business purposes. Meanwhile, provincial governments should make every effort to clamp down on groups making huge profits from illegally charging highway fees. We will provide the public with detailed measures, and make sure these problems are solved as soon as possible."
中国交通运输部高速公路局局长李华称：“我们应该准确地知道中国有多少条收费的公路和这些公路已经收多少年的高速公路费。我们也应当知道这些钱是怎么用的，像是用于还贷或者是用于商业用途。同时，省政府应该尽一切努力取缔那些以非法收取高速公路费来牟取暴利的团体。我们将为公众提供具体的措施，确保这些问题能尽快地解决。”
