Today we celebrate World Blood Donor Day. This year's theme is "Every Blood Donor is a Hero."

Shi Wenjing takes us to have a look at one person who's given far more than her fair share. A policewoman in Huaibei city of eastern China's Anhui province has donated 3200ccs over the past 6 years.

Zhou Chenchen was told her blood type was Rh negative during a physical examination at 18. In China only 3 out of every 1,000 people are born with this blood type. The doctor then asked her whether she would give blood. She didn't hesitate to give her answer.

Zhou says, "I donated blood for the first time just after I held my 18th birthday party. As an adult I have certain responsibilities."

From that point forward, she made donating blood her mission. And she clearly went well and above the call of duty on that count.

The head of Huaibei city blood station Dai Changqing says, "Now she is our blood bank for this rare blood type. She's never refused our requests, and has always arrived at our station in time, even at midnight."

Every time Zhou returns home after giving blood, her father prepares her a nutritious meal to help her body recover and support her in her donations. That's important. Zhou Chenchen keeps her cell phone at the ready all day, just in case she's needed, and it turns out she's needed a lot.

She has given blood 7 times over the past 6 years - an amount equal to nearly all the blood in her body.
