Music fans around the world were glued to their televisions to watch the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards in Downtown Los Angeles. The awards ceremony attracts millions of 20-something viewers every year.
The awards this year has gone in one direction, and that’s to the new British-Irish boy band of the same name. They had their audience fans screaming, and won three awards including "Best Pop Video" and "Best New Artist".
They performed their smash hit "One Thing" on stage.
The group stole the attention from Rihanna who won "Video of the Year" out of her five nominations. Her former boyfriend Chris Brown won the "Best Male" video category with his self-directed video "Turn Up the Music".
Taylor Swift also performed her new song "We Are Never Getting Back Together". The Awards ceremony took place on Sept 6th at the Staples Center Arena in Los Angeles.
