Singapore's founding prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, remains critically ill in an intensive care unit. The 91-year-old has been receiving treatment for severe pneumonia since February, at Singapore General Hospital.
According to previous government statements, his condition had worsened due to an infection, for which he was given antibiotics, and doctors were closely monitoring his condition. The senior Lee has been breathing with the help of "mechanical ventilation," a form of life support.
Meanwhile, the Singapore government is investigating a hoax announcement of Lee's death on Wednesday, that fooled a number of international media outlets.
