(BEIJING, June 13) -- Dayron Robles of Cuba broke the men's 110 meter hurdles world record at the Golden Spike Grand Prix in Ostrava, Czech Republic, on June 12. The record was previously held by China's Liu Xiang. This came as a big surprise to everyone, including himself. "It is such a good time," Robles was quoted as saying by IAAF, "I did not expect that. Wow!"

"At first I was really impressed with the performance, just shocked," he said. "But when I saw the '87,' I just went crazy."

Depite his excellent form, the young Cuban said he did not know whether or not he could beat Olympic gold medal hurdler Liu at the Beijing Olympics.
