NEW YORK, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Organizers on Wednesday announced the 15th Tribeca Film Festival (TFF) will be held in New York City from April 13-24, 2016, while publishing specific dates of the deadline for submitting U.S. and international films in four major categories.
During the festival, which has been served as a platform for original storytelling, creative expression, and immersive entertainment, attendees will gather for innovation events, parties, Tribeca Talks panels, juried showcase of interactive storytelling and lineup, said the organizers.
The organizers said in the new year, they would also present a special prize named after the legendary filmmaker and writer Nora Ephron -- The Nora Ephron Prize -- for the third year, awarding 25, 000 U.S. dollars to one special female filmmaker in a bid to encourage women filmmakers.
TFF was founded by a group of people including American actor and producer Robert De Niro in 2001 following the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, with the purpose of advancing economic and cultural revitalization of the Lower Manhattan District through an annual celebration of films, music and culture.
More than 1,600 films from more than 80 countries have been screened since the Tribeca Film Festival was first held in 2002, with an international audience of more than 5.4 million people in attendance.
