英语文摘:More countries extend condolences over Chinese cruise tragedy

BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- More foreign leaders have sent messages of condolences to China over the June 1 tragic cruise ship tragedy on the country's largest river, as confirmed casualties from the mishap rose to 103 on Friday evening.

Among those extending sympathy and condolences were: South African President Jacob Zuma, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, German President Joachim Gauck, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic, Slovak President Andrej Kiska, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, President of Cuba's Council of State and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro, Bolivian President Evo Morales, Uruguayan President Tabare Vazquez, Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Antigua and Barbuda's Governor-General Rodney Williams, Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, and South Korean acting Prime Minister Choi Kyoung-hwan.

In addition, France, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Romania, Latvia, Slovenia, Canada, Malaysia, The Philippines, Libya, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Dominica and other countries have also sent their condolences to the Chinese government and people over the mishap as well.

A cruise liner, Eastern Star, carrying more than 450 people capsized Monday night in the Hubei section of the Yangtze River. The latest official figures showed that of the more than 450 people on the Eastern Star cruise ship, 117 people have been found, including 14 survivors.
