BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Wednesday he is looking forward to working together with Canada's incoming Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to push forward bilateral ties.
In a phone conversation with Trudeau, Li first congratulated the Canadian political leader on winning the premiership and recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 45 years ago when Pierre Trudeau, Justin Trudeau's father, was Canada's prime minister.
Both China and Canada are significant players in the Asia-Pacific region and their relations have witnessed a smooth development, said Li.
The Chinese side is ready to enhance high-level exchanges with the Canadian side, strengthen strategic mutual trust, and expand cooperation in various fields including trade and investment, education and cultural exchanges, among others, said Li.
The two sides should also have closer coordination and communication regarding major regional and global issues so as to push for further progress in the development of bilateral ties and jointly safeguard global peace and stability, Li added.
For his part, while noting that Canada-China friendship has a long history, Trudeau said there is great potential for bilateral cooperation and the development of Canada-China relations is in line with the interests of both countries and could benefit the whole world.
The new Canadian government attaches great importance to its relations with China and is willing to maintain high-level contacts with the Chinese side, strengthen all-round cooperation and bring bilateral ties to a higher level, said Trudeau.
