BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese state councilor Wang Yong emphasized implementing the innovation-driven development strategy to help boost the country's self-reliance on science and technology.
More should be done to consolidate enterprises as the main players in pursuit of innovation, Wang said while inspecting the China Electronic Technology Group Corporation in Beijing.
He called for efforts to attach greater importance to scientific and technological innovation and the tackling of key and core technologies to enhance the competitiveness of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
The country should increase its research and development investment in a target-oriented manner and step up efforts to improve weak links in the industrial and supply chains, he added.
Wang also stressed efforts to leverage the SOEs' strengths to forge emerging industrial chains, improve innovation mechanisms, and deepen enterprise reforms to stimulate the innovation vitality of scientific and technological talents.
