MONTEVIDEO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay on Friday won its first point over Chile in the Davis Cup series from Group 1 from Americas' Zone, thanks to the 3-1 victory of Marcel Felder against Jorge Aguilar.
Uruguayan Felder, 244th position in ATP ranking, won 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 and 6-2 against Chilean Jorge Aguilar, 336th position in ATP ranking, in a game played at Carrasco Lawn Tennis clay court in Montevideo.
Felder struggled to win the first match, lost the second in tie break and afterwards he easily won the next two matches.
After winning the second match, Aguilar had cramps which forced him to ask for medical attention.
The first day of Davis Cup series will complete during Friday afternoon with the game between Chilean Paul Capdeville (119th in ATP ranking) and Uruguayan Martin Cuevas (570th in ATP ranking), brother of Pablo Cuevas, the number one Uruguayan tennis player.
Pablo Cuevas couldn't play the Davis Cup series because he didn't fully recover of a knee injury.
On Saturday, the double match will be played by Felder and Ariel Behar (323rd in ATP ranking) against Chileans Nicolas Massu (498th in ATP ranking) and Guillermo Hormazabal (560 ATP), beginning at 1500 local time (1800 GMT).
On Sunday, Chillean Capdeville will face Uruguayan Felder, while Uruguayan Martin Cuevas will face Chilean Aguilar at 1330 local time (1630 GMT).
The winner country will compete in the play-off of the Davis Cup's World Group in September.
Chile has an advantage over Uruguay of 5-1 in the historic record.?
