MADRID, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was satisfied by a hard-working display as his side defeated Rayo Vallecano in the Vallecas Stadium on Monday night.
Goals from Karim Benzema and a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty were enough to give Madrid the points in a game which took place a day later than scheduled due to someone cutting the electricity cables to the floodlights in Vallecas prior to Sunday's scheduled kick off time.
It was by no means a vintage Madrid display, but Mourinho believed his side had showed the virtues that mattered against a hard-working rival.
"It was a difficult game and we needed to be fully motivated. If we had shown that motivation in Getafe or Seville (where Madrid lost 2-1 and 1-0), maybe we would have won," said the Real Madrid coach.
"We could have played better, even though our rivals worked hard and pressed us a lot, but my criticism has always been at our attitude and the way that the team was action. In this match the team was a team," continued Mourinho, who also discussed the fact that it had uncertain whether or not the game would actually be played until the floodlights in Vallecas were tested at just five hours before the scheduled kick off time.
"It was the same situation for the two teams. You get to the ground and you are ready to play. If you don't play then you go away and come back another day."
"We were told at around 3.30 pm that the game would go ahead and both teams were able to overcome that problem," he concluded.
