RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Former AC Milan and Brazil international goalkeeper Dida is on the verge of joining Brazilian top-flight club Gremio.
Brazilian daily O Globo reported Tuesday that the 39-year-old is days away from an agreement with the Porto Alegre club.
"We would like him to stay because he's had a great season but it will be difficult because teams that are financially stronger than us are interested in him," Portuguesa president Manuel da Lupa said.
"I still haven't discussed it with him. But the information I have is that he will be going to Gremio."
Dida enjoyed a successful season with Portuguesa having signed with the Brazilian top-flight side in May following a two-year break from football.
Gremio spokesman Omar Selamein confirmed the club's interest in the veteran.
"He is a great goalkeeper with a lot of experience," Selamein told Radio Gaucha.
Dida played 91 games for Brazil between 1995 and 2006. His 206-game career with AC Milan included Champions League triumphs in 2003 and 2007.
