ZHENGZHOU, April 5 (Xinhua) -- London Olympic champion Jiao Liuyang of Guangzhou Army breezed to win the women's 200-meter butterfly title in two minute 5.87 seconds at the National Championships Friday, which is the world fastest time so far this year.
Beijing Olympic champion Liu Zige, represents Shanghai, took second in 2:07.10, which ranked second in the world in 2013. Gong Jie from Guangzhou Army placed third in 2:08.59.
"It's good. I just resumed training for a few days, so the time is OK," said Jiao.
The competition between Jiao and Liu was one of people's focus at the National Championships, but Jiao said she just swam under her own rhythm.
"I just competed with myself in the match and swam under my own rhythm," she said. "I don't want to be affected by other people."
"But the competition between us is a good thing," she said. "It makes both of us keep training hard."
Liu seemed unsatisfied with her time. "I expected a better result," she said.
