BOGOTA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Triple jumper Caterine Ibarguen and cyclist Nairo Quintana have been nominated for Colombia's 2015 Best Athletes awards, local press reported Thursday.
The award is presented by Colombia's daily El Espectador. Based on the opinion of an expert jury, the daily will also grant awards to the best young athlete, the coach of the year, the best team of the year and the best new player as well as the "Guillermo Cano" fair play award.
Since 2014, El Espectador has included an online survey to name the most voted athlete.
Quintana, born in Boyaca and leader of the Movistar team, was nominated for his runner-up position in the Tour de France and his fourth place in the Spanish Vuelta, despite overcoming health problems.
According to local press, Nairo said he will seek to win the Tour de France and a gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
In comparison, Ibarguen won all the stages of the IAAF Diamond League, nailing her third title in the competition. Ibarguen, 31 and born in Antioquia, also won gold at the Toronto Pan American Games and the Beijing World Championships, where she produced an impressive 14.90m jump.??
