名人教英文：殿堂人物乔布斯
苹果公司创办人乔布斯逝世后，很多人撰文悼念。其中一篇是雅虎财经专栏作家daniel gross所写的steve jobs earned his place in the american business pantheon。
gross说："steve jobs was a singular figure in american business history. he will go in the pantheon of great american entrepreneurs, inventors, and innovators, alongside john d rockefeller, henry ford, and sam walton."
singular不止解作「单数的」或「独个的」，也可解作「非凡的」。gross认为乔布斯是美国商业史上的非凡人物，可以进入美国伟大企业家、发明家和革新者的殿堂（pantheon）。pantheon一词源自希腊语，pan- 即「全部」，theo-即「神」，pantheon有「献给诸神」的意思。古罗马人建立诸神殿，就以the pantheon为名。后来pantheon用以指某专业范畴的殿堂。
